The Commission on Decolonization
Aim of the Commission:
The Decolonization Commission (COD) was established following meetings with others in the same situation during the participation of the Provisional Government of the Free Territory of Trieste’s delegation to the 17th session of the United Nations Forum on Minority Issues (November 2024, 29).Its goal is to educate the population on the current status of the territory, addressing issues such as sovereignty, independence and possible free association, with a view to a resolution that could involve mediation by the UN Security Council against the occupying power.The COD aims to:– Ascertain the population’s intentions, in accordance with FTT law, regarding future political relations with neighboring states.– Resolve the current division of territory into two zones and end this situation.– Achieve a full degree of self-government through the simple appointment by the UN of a Governor for the Free Territory of Trieste.
