The Civil Registry Office is the central authority for generalities status events. It keeps the various civil status registers, performs marriages, registers same-sex partnerships, processes births, marriages and deaths, and has foreign civil status events recognized. In addition, the Civil Registry Office is responsible for the registration of FTT citizens and the registration of children of FTT fathers born out of wedlock. During the review phase of Italian resident citizens in the FTT, all aspects of descent and period of residence, if not citizens of the FTT, are addressed to determine the granting  or denial of residency. Further tasks are the maintenance of the register of residence, the issuance of register extracts, documents and confirmations, the issuance of death certificates and the implementation of name changes. The Civil Registry Office also plays an important role with regard to naturalizations, since it carries out naturalizations as a result of marriage, or naturalizations in the ordinary procedure.
