The Office of Education is responsible for the planning, maintenance, and further development of the school operations of all public schools in the FTT. There are 67 preschools, 61 elementary schools, 21 middle schools, 23 high schools including day and evening schools and:

It is responsible for teaching staff, all school administrators and other school personnel (e.g., school secretaries).

The Office of Education supports the government in the supervision of Trieste universities and represents the FTT in international bodies concerning higher education policy.

The Office of Education includes other departments: The School Psychological Service, School Social Work, the Pedagogical Work Center and Special School Areas, the School Media Center with the Center for Educational Media, the Official Publisher of Educational Materials, the Scholarship Office, the School Centers Indoor Pool, and the Youth Centers.
